Author Loren Mead shares some "rules for whitewater rafting" that also apply to life in the church.

RULES FOR WHITEWATER RAFTING
1.  Remember, whitewater is what you came for, so enjoy it.
2.  Decide before starting if you are going to steer from the front or the back.
3.  Someone needs to call out the orders clearly; it works better that way.
4.  Rest in the calm places. There will be more whitewater.
5.  Never stop paddling, even when it seems hopeless.
6.  If you get into trouble, don't panic.
7.  Don't be surprised if the boat doesn't go where you want it to.
8.  On a raft the activity on the right, the more the boat goes to the left, the more activity on the left
the more the boat goes to the right.
9. If you do go under, let go of everything, eventually you'll come back up.
10. Everyone paddles furiously to get somewhere, but it's really the current that takes you downstream.
11. Trust the raft and try to stay on it.
12. Remember , the people in the raft are the ones who will help pull you out of the water.
They're also the ones you'll eat supper with.

Sounds like good advice to me! See you in the rapids!
Grace and Peace,
Errol Archerson
